-::Arthur Ashe Kid's Day::-
August 23, 1997

Here's a pic that I took at Arthur Ashe Kid's Day! Don't take it without my permission.
9:00AM (EST)- Lucy, Danielle, and Lynne and I hopped in our little red car totally excited and anxious to see Hanson perform live. We were singing throughout the whole 1 hour drive to Flushing Meadows, New York. We passed many other motorists, and we put our shirts and signs in the window for everyone to see (many people looked & laughed or gave us 2 thumbs up). One car was FULL of teenage guys (17-20 years old) who smiled at us and gave us thumbs up. We were surprised. We got closer and closer to New York, and soon we saw the Twin tours in the distant view, we were verry excited. We entered the city of Flushing Meadows, New York, and kind of got lost. But, we made it there, parked the car at a grocery store, and walked about 2 miles to Arthur Ashe Stadium. We carried our LARGE signs on the busy streets of New York, and almost caused accidents from people staring at us. :) It was fun. Then, we arrived at the front gates to enter Arthur Ashe Stadium, where many people stood to get in, and we knew Hanson was somewhere in there...
10:00AM (EST)- We entered the area (in front of us was a HUGE bran new stadium *Arthur Ashe Stadium*, to our sides were many mini-tennis stadiums (with courts in them obviously). We knew Hanson was close. We walked around for a little while, everyone was staring at our shirts & signs wondering if this was a TENNIS day or a HANSON day (to us it was obviously a Hanson Day), although we did bring rackets incase Hanson played or something (they didn't though...). Well, one security officer man who worked there came up to us and said, "Hey girls! Hanson is signing autographs in Court 7." We SCREAMED and RAN the fastest ever to Court 7. Our hearts were pounding as we searched for the 3 hotties. We looked in every square inch of Court 7, but Hanson was nowhere. The guy had lied to us. That was quite disappointing. We looked through other courts nearby, but Hanson was nowhere in sight. We decided to go to the top of the mini-tennis stadium (Court 7) and scream & sing from the top to all the people below...
10:30AM (EST)- We stood on the top of Court 7 (which gave us a great view of the whole area), and sang all Hanson songs and screamed, "HANSON RULEZ! I LOVE TAY!-me, I LOVE ZAC!-Lucy, I LOVE IKE!-Lynne, MMMBOP!" and everything to people below. They looked at us and smiled. Camaramen zoomed in on us from below as we basically made fools of ourselves. It was fun though. They yelled from below, "Hold your signs higher! Higher! HIGHER! Smile to the camara girls!" So we did. We were probably in the newspapers. Many Hanson fans below sang along, and danced and yelled back to us. It was cool. We got yelled at by Security officers to stay away from the ledge and to sit down because they were afraid we would fall. We didn't listen. :) We had fun, and all of New York could probably hear us...but Everyone wondered where Hanson was...
11:00AM (EST)- We were still on top of Court 7, with other Hanson fans who joined us, when we suddenly stopped and listened to a FAINT MELODY of "MMM Bop" close by! We went hysterical. It was TAY's voice, and it was coming from inside Arthur Ashe Stadium (next to us). We all screamed and got excited in disbelief that Hanson was so close.
12:00PM (EST)- The doors of Arthur Ashe Stadium were ready to be opened, and we joined the crowd in front of the gates. Tons of girls stood squashed together, anxious to get in. Some girls took pictures of our shirts...yes our SHIRTS (weird eh?). Camaramen pulled some of us out for pictures. Again, they said, "Hold your signs high! Smile!". It was cool. Everyone thought that Hanson would be coming out from inside the stadium, so we were pushing & shoving & screaming, "We want Hanson! We want Hanson!". They never came out though. Finally the gates opened for the first time ever, and everyone hurded in.
12:30PM (EST)- We passed through the gates, and RAN up the stairs to get inside the stadium. Many people were confused on where to go, this stadium is HUGE. We found our seats (Row W), and settled our stuff down. Our seats were only 3 rows from the VERY TOP of Arthur Ashe Stadium...it was HIGH! We were scared to look down. The stage was directly across the stadium from us, but wwwaaayyy down. I left to look for my dad, while Lucy, Danielle & Lynne waited. I gave my camara to Lucy incase Hanson came out. After about 10 minutes of aimlessly searching, I decided to give up and go back (I didn't want to miss Hanson). I re-entered at around Row T, and looked up to see some people standing at the ledge of the stadium, looking down and screaming! I screamed and flew up the stairs to see what they were all so excited about. I looked down, and sitting down there on big black blocks were IKE, TAY & ZAC! They looked up a lot and smiled and greeted their fans (the sweeties that they are). They were getting photos taken, while about 20 people (girls) screamed for them above them. Lucy, Danielle and Lynne were one of the FIRST people up there to see Hanson below, and Hanson waved & looked at them a million times. They were diiing :) At one point, Lucy called Zac's name, but then looked at Taylor who waved to her, and Zac smiled at her and said, "What? :)". Awww! Unfortunately, I missed a lot of this, but I caught a glimpse of them waving & getting pictures taken, and walking into the stadium...
1:00PM (EST)- The show had started! Everyone took their seats, and we anxoiusly awaited Hanson's first performance of the day. They came out, and the crowd went wild. We screamed and cried as we watched Ike, Tay & Zac walk on stage and get play "MMM Bop". It sounded GRREEAATT! Although we were very far away, we could still see them. It was too cool. I cried & cried & cried from happiness, and when they finished MMMBop they waved and walked off and Tay said, "See you guys later!". We decided to go on a hunt for them, so we left our seats and began tracking them down...
2:00PM (EST)- We left our signs up there, because they were too big to drag around, but I brought my video camara and camara. We looked around the whole top floor, and passed other fans searching too. We re-entered the stadium once in a while to make sure Hanson wasn't performing again yet. We walked up & down a million flights of stairs, and ran around the stadium numerous times, but we couldn't find them. Soon, the announcer guy in the stadium said, "Hanson will be next, so stay tuned!". We went back in, we were MUCH closer to the stage this time. We stood in Row A (the same level as the stage) and it was directly across from us (about 100 feet I'd say). We had a great view. They finally came out, and once again the volume level went skyrocketing, but it cool. They began playing "Where's The Love" and it sounded better than ever. Everyone was singing along and dancing, it was fun. After they finished, they had a short interview for CBS. We couldn't hear much from all the screaming (although we comtributed to that screaming quite a bit, hehe). Then they left the stage once again, waved to all the fans, and went back to their little room (where Mackie, Jessica & Avery were too). We saw exactly where it was, and nobody was standing near it, so we made a run for it...
2:30PM (EST)- We stood REAL close to their room suite box thing, and saw Tay & Zac come out once in a while. We saw Jessica and Mackie too. One of Hanson's friends were standing outside the door as well. We were really excited. Then, we figured out how we could actually get IN that suite box room, so we went through the hallway thing to the doors. TONS of girls were standing there, screaming and pushing to get in. Many security guards were there trying to get things under control, but it wasn't working. Everyone was pushing and shoving, and it was really hhoott, there was no air. We found out that Hanson was supposed to come out and give autographs. More and more girls joined the hysteria, and things got worse. Then, the door to Hanson's room opened, and everyone's hands went UP with camara's clicking everywhere and AH! I'll never forget it. I was one of the taller ones, luckily, and Zac was standing there ready to come out. The screaming was HERENDOUS (or however you spell it). It was unbelieveably LOUD! Then, suddenly the door closed again and everyone was confused. The security guards told us Hanson would NOT come out (and cannot come out) because nobody was cooperating. We were all mad, was still determined. Many girls were hylucinating & hyperventilating (Ooooh baby I'm hylucinating, hyperventilating...). Our candy we wanted to give Hanson was melted and basically crushed. We were really mad (at the girls who wouldn't move) because it was THEIR fault that we couldn't meet Hanson. So we went back into the stadium area and prepared for Hanson's next performance.
3:00PM (EST)- Hanson came out, for the last performances of the day, and we were EVEN closer than before. Now, we stood within about 30 feet of them (which gives you a GREAT view when there are no heads in your way). They strolled back out onto the stage, set up, and did a small sound check, and waited for the TV camaramen to say GO. While waiting, they waved to fans and smiled and all. We yelled together, "WE LoVe You!!!" and TAY heard us and waved!!! Yes, he waved to US!! I caught it on video tape! It was grreat. We were crying, hehe. They soon started "Madeline", which sounded absolutely wonderful. It was so cool, I have it on video too. After "Madeline" they began "Man From Milwuakee". It was incredibly awesome! During "Man From Milwuakee", we managed to sneak up closer & closer & CLOSER to them! Soon enough, we were within 10 FEET of them. It was a dream come true. We could see each strand of hair, and their smiling faces. Zac's walkie-talkie part was awesome! (although it was kind of hard to hear it from all the screaming around us). I squeezed my through everyone and I was right up front in the row! All the girls were behind me, and the only person holding me back now was the security guard (darn him, hehe). I had a *perfect* view of them. After they finished that song, they set up for Thinking of You, A Minute Without You, and an encore of MMMBop! Ike for his other guitar, Zac hopped over to his drum set, and Tay waved to fans (he didn't have to move anything really). Then, Tay turned toward us, and waved right into my camara! He's so cute. He saw it and smiled ~gotta love those dimples :) and waved right at me. I caught it on video, but due to overexcitement at the same moment I managed to hit a button, and the whole camara went blank. It wouldn't work after that. Anyways, we got EVEN closer when they played MMMBop! Zac was facing right towards me, it was cool. After that, they quickly ran off stage to avoid the crowd, and went back into their room...
***Everyone began leaving Arthur Ashe Stadium, and the day ended. It all went by sooo fast. We began leaving, when we realized we left our signs up in Row W. We went back in to get them, and looked for Hanson too. We were told that Hanson left already, but we didn't really believe it. After we got our signs, we went onto the stage they had just performed on, and sang & danced. It was fun. We used & touched their microphones, and then spotted 3 waterbottles. Each waterbottle was sitting in the exact spot where each Hanson was standing! Taylor's was under his keyboard & microphone stand (left side of the stage), Ike's was under his mic's stand (mid-stage) and Zac's was on his drum platform (a big white wooden box thing that he played his drums on, back-right side of stage)! We grabbed them and praised them :) Tay & Ike's still had water in them, so we eventually gulped it down after looking for spit particles and everything (sounds gross eh? hehhe!). Zac's was rather crushed and beat-up looking, but still in 1 piece, cute! Lucy has Zac's. I have Tay's. Lynne has Ike's. That was cool. We praised the ground they stood on, and we saw Zac's footprint on his drum platform. We were like analyzing their microphones, and footprints, and everything. It was a lot of fun. I'll always remember it.***
